Chaplain John Stetzer

"I was raised in Wheaton, IL where I attended college and received my Batchelor's in History.   My wife and I then moved to the Boston area where I received my Master's degree from Gordon Divinity School.

Upon graduation, I became a pastor with the CMA and pastored churches in Illinois (starting one as a pioneer work), Washington (I helped start a Christian school at one with the additional titles of Principal and Superintendent) and one church in Oregon.

My police chaplaincy began in Illinois, continued in Washington, and I began a full time volunteer ministry in The Dalles, OR in 1994.

Currently, I am serving Scappoose Police, Scappoose Fire (also a member of CERT), Columbia County Sheriff's Office (jail, road, SAR and Posse), and the Columbia County 911 Center, again as a full time volunteer.   None of the Columbia County agencies for which I work had ever had a chaplain.   So in each case, I developed a program from scratch.   For the past 3 years, I've headed up our county crisis response team.   All together, I've now served about 17 years as an Emergency Services Chaplain.

I have two sons, both living and working in the Seattle area.   My wife, Christine, is currently a principal of a K-3 elementary school (425 students) in Scappoose.   We have been happily married now for over 42 years.   We are proud grandparents of a brilliant second grade girl (what else can I say?)."
